Death March 1: Novelist Barry Hannah died at his home in Oxford, Miss. He was 67.

Death April 13: Novelist Lewis Nordan died in Cleveland of complications from pneumonia. He was 72.

Death July 17: Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post columnist William Raspberry died at his home in Washington, D.C. He was 76.

Death Nov. 7: Novelist Ellen Douglas died at her home in Jackson, Mississippi. She was 91.



Death June 3: Civil rights pioneer, Baptist minister, and writer Will D. Campbell died in Nashville following complications of a stroke. He was 88.
