Based in Columbus, Mississippi, the company was erected by Wilbur and Dorothy Colom. Mrs. Colom, a judge and an avid romance reader, found there was few, if any, romance novels geared towards women of color. To fill this void, Genesis Press was developed, who then approached authors from all over the United States. With the help of agents and editors, Genesis soon acquired its first ten novels, which were released under the company's Indigo imprint.
