Poet and educator Claire
T. Feild grew up in Yazoo City, Mississippi, where she was born
October 11, 1946. She received a bachelors degree in 1967
at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus and a master
of education degree from Mississippi State University in 1969.
Her first book of poems, Mississippi Delta Women in Prism,
was published by NewSouth Books in Montgomery, Alabama, in 2002,
but
her poetry has appeared in a number of journals, including The
Carolina Quarterly; Apostrophe: USCB Journal of the Arts;
Folio: A Literary Journal of the American University; The
Mochila Review; Smartish Pace; Sophies Wind;
Big Muddy: A Journal of the Mississippi River Valley; Runes:
A Review of Poetry; and Neovictorian/Cochlea. In 2001,
she was nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Krater Quarterly.
As an educator, she has edited/published a national literary magazine
for teachers titled Beyond Doggerel, and she has published
articles on research in the teaching of English and the use of
technology
in education. In addition, she has written
more than 250 feature articles for Alabama newspapers. Essay excerpts
from her unpublished memoir A Delta Vigil have been
published in Bostons Full Circle: A Journal of Poetry
and Prose. She currently
serves as a writing consultant for undergradate and graduate
students in the College
of Business at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama.
